Angkor Archaeological Park is one of the "Seven Wonders of the World" heritage sites, registered by UNESCO in 1992.
The Angkor area is a compound of temple ruins built during between the 9th and to 13th centuries, including Banteay Srei, Angkor Wat and Bayon temple, to name a few.
Those of archaeological signifiance and visual impact put it in a class with the Pyramids and the Tay Mahal.
Unlike many other world class mounments, the ruins of Angkor are as yet unspoiled by commercialism and over-developement. Made famous by the arts and architecture, the Angkor archaeological complex
has opened their door to recieve millions of visitors from around the world.
Once, the capital of the great Khmer Empire civilization, the Angkor Complex has over 100 attractive temple ruins offering a valuable insight into how the Khmer civilization lived in harmony
and prosperity a thousand years ago. This is why it is said that the Khmer society has the richest cultural heritage of Southeast Asia. This sentiment comes from many visitors:
"If we do not see the sunrise or sunset at Angkor Wat, we cannot let our life end in serenity".
